CHARACTER NAME: Mikleo. Luzrov Rulay ("Mikleo the Enforcer") is his true name.
AGE: 18
CANON & HISTORY: Tales of Zestiria the X, the anime adaptation of the game. The two are highly divergent in terms of timeline, events, and some aspects of character development. The anime wiki is unfortunately super sparse, so here's an episode summary writeup too.
CANON POINT: End of the anime, but well before the post-credits epilogue. A few months after Sorey commits himself to the earthpulse to purify Heldalf.
PERSONALITY: Mikleo’s grown up balancing out his important best friend and rival Sorey, and their personalities complement each other. Sorey’s more impulsive, trusting of others, and drags them recklessly into new experiences; while Mikleo isn’t above getting into reckless shenanigans himself, he’s somewhat more reserved and likely to look before he leaps. He’s generally levelheaded, logical and reliable under pressure, able to look out for himself and others in a sticky spot. He and Sorey both have a healthy interest in ruins, exploration, and historical academia, and he’s grown up sharing Sorey’s ambition to see a world where humans and seraphim can coexist.
Mikleo generally comes off as a serious and analytical boy at first, but not a cold one. He takes a while to warm up to Alisha, for example, being as suspicious of strange humans as any other seraph, but he still comes along to try and save her life, and winds up admiring her as a person and friend, and having a personal stake in her welfare. We also see him willing to help out strangers like the Normin Attak, and getting along reasonably well with Attak afterwards, despite their different viewpoints of people and the world. He’s tactful, but also fairly direct about confronting people (the ones who can see him, anyway) – when they need to know more about Dezel’s interest in Rose, Mikleo asks him outright instead of dancing around the issue.
Spend more time around him, though, and it’s clear that unlike most seraphim, he’s as young as he looks – he still acts like a teenager, and doesn’t have the life experience and/or jadedness other seraphs have for humans and the world. He mutually teases Sorey and Edna, is gently group-bullied into making food for everyone, gets into stupid academic debates with Sorey in public, and is not above gently joking around when he’s with people he knows well. He also gets defensive and a bit shouty about sensitive topics, such as people's many nicknames for him (Meebo, Mickey, Touchy-Feeleo, etc.), or when people get up in his space.
He’s dedicated, stubborn, and constantly strives to improve his abilities and gain more power. He needs to protect, not to be protected; the first time he really leaves Sorey’s side, it’s because he needs to find a way to fight on the same level as the Shepherd, rather than continue to be a liability. He also tends to put aside his own feelings if there’s a bigger picture to focus on. It’s not that he hides his distress, but if his best friend’s going to jump in a pit to stop the final boss and they're out of time to find alternatives, he’s going to try to hold steady and keep going, rather than making things even more difficult for everyone with a prolonged breakdown.
In the end, while he’s capable of striking out on his own (and truly does so at the end of the series), Mikleo’s drive and goals tend to center around traveling with and supporting Sorey and friends for as long as he can. He makes it his duty to ensure Sorey is doing all right: he watches Sorey's back in battle, checks that he eats and takes breaks, and generally helps keep him from falling off cliffs or getting stabbed. He’s not unaware of or insensitive to the greater problems in the world, of course – he’s seen contemplating them, and he talks the problems they run into with human nature and malevolence out with his friends frequently. However, he’s there to watch the heroes’ backs while they change things (because someone needs to, seriously), rather than trying to be a hero by himself.
POWERS: Mikleo is a seraph, an elemental/supernatural being; his alignment is with water. He can manipulate it, sense it, produce the fresh form of it, freeze it, and cast a bevy of water and ice-based combat/healing spells in a small area. His field ability, Spectral Cloak, allows him to form a bubble shield around people to make them undetectable for a very short period of time. He also has a fine-tuned sense of cold temperatures that helps him with making really, really good ice cream.
Seraphim also have passive powers: lack of need to eat or sleep; immortality in the unaging sense; sensitivity to malevolence (spiritual impurity generated by sentient beings, capable of mutating things into monsters or dragons); and the ability to possess and reside intangibly inside purified vessels, ranging from a jug of blessed water to a human soul.
Regular humans without resonance (spiritual sensitivity) can’t perceive seraphim properly. Anything a seraph does looks like weird ghost activity/natural disaster, depending on its scale: pick up an object? It'll look like it's floating. Cast a spell? Fire or water comes out of nowhere. Bodily contact? You just bounced off oddly solid air. Objects a seraph handles for a long time, like oft-worn outfits or everyday weapons, become imbued with their essence and invisible as well. Seraphim are able to dissolve and summon these imbued objects at will (thankfully we just see this with weapons, not clothes, or this would be a very different kind of show.)
If his pacted Shepherd/vessel Sorey is present, he's able to purify malevolence, hide inside Sorey's soul, fuse with him for combat to combine their powers, and wield a magic water-element bow while fused.
Most of these abilities will be lost on low-frequency worlds, though he will retain lack of aging and lack of need to eat/sleep!

GAME INFO;
MAGIC ABILITY: The power to transform into a dragon once every twenty-four hours. He can stay in dragon shape for twelve hours maximum; however, it gets increasingly tiring and physically/mentally stressful to maintain as it approaches that upper limit.
The dragon form is not gigantic and does not have any secondary magical abilities, but has fairly formidable natural weapons and armor, and can carry up to two people for a couple of hours’ flight. A good general size/strength comparison is Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon, but minus super fire breath and with added spiky bits.
PRICE: His circlet; it used to be his mother’s and is the only memento he has of any sort of life or family before Elysia.
ACCLIMATION: Around a 7. He’s generally able to deal with weird magic shenanigans, and being able to travel to other worlds and see other cultures will absolutely fascinate him, but the power from Qri will take a lot of getting used to due to canon associations, and he won’t be able to entirely forget that he has responsibilities to return to. Being from post-final boss helps, as those responsibilities won't be quite so immediate and urgent, but he'll always want to go back home.
